Unconventional exploration and development can be significantly improved by identifying localized structures with residual mapping and 3D seismic, and then proper placement within the optimal geological setting. This publication allows for a detailed understanding of organic preservation within the Utica/Point Pleasant Shale play.

The organic preservation in the lower portion of the Point Pleasant is controlled by a variety of depostional factors; sea level fluctuation, accommodation space, and siliciclastic input. This publication helps explain why the total organic carbon is not homogeneous in this shale play.
